Join us for the opening of FiveMyles’ 20th Anniversary Benefit Exhibition!
The work featured in this exhibition has been generously donated by more than 70 FiveMyles artists, including Donna Dennis, and will be on view until May 19th. On the last day of the exhibition, patrons who have purchased a ticket to the FiveMyles Benefit will participate in a modified raffle and will leave with one of these fantastic artworks.
Anonymous Was A Woman have announced their twentieth annual awards, given to women artists over the age of 40. This year's ten winners are: Donna Dennis, Wendy Ewald, Simone Forti, Rachel Harrison, Pam Lins, Jennifer Montgomery, Dona Nelson, Lisa Sanditz, Lisa Sigal and Julianne Swartz.
Donna Dennis wins the Award of Merit Medal in Sculpture. The Award of Merit Medal is accompanied by $25,000 and given each year, in rotation, to an outstanding person in America representing one of the following arts: Painting, the Short Story, Sculpture, the Novel, Poetry, and Drama. The award in Sculpture is given every seven years. Previous winners include Charles Long, Judy Pfaff, Joel Shapiro, and George Trakas.
$25,000 award goes to Donna Dennis—New York artist, Guggenheim fellow, multiple NEA grantee and Whitney Biennial alumnus (among other honors)—who first achieved notoriety in the mid 1970s with her large architecturally-inspired sculptural installations that include the groundbreaking Subway Station and Tourist Cabin works; her much anticipated Coney Night Maze premieres in June 2013 at the Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase, NY.
